As the Climate Cohort Coordinator I was responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the third Laredo Youth Climate Cohort program for 2024. I cultivated the next generation of climate leaders in our South Texas border community through storytelling, environmental activism, and advocacy. I worked closely with with my group of university students, community leaders, local academic institutions, and other stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive engagement strategy for the Cohort, fostering skills in storytelling, public speaking, grassroots organizing, and policy advocacy. In this role I identified, intreviwed and recruited 10 high-achieving, college-aged students to a climate-focused project, that culminated in an art exhibit/ town-hall. Il organize trainings on profile writing, photography, community event planning, and a focused outreach and messaging campaign. I was tasked with integrating principles of environmental justice, climate science, and storytelling into the Cohort’s curriculum. This included managing interactive workshops led by local experts, coordinating mentorship opportunities, and overseeing project development. Cohort students will receive a scholarship upon successful completion of project tasks.
