As a Fourth Grade Homeroom Teacher (permanent substitute), I was responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across core content areas, including 4th and 5th grade mathematics, science, and social studies. I designed and implemented lesson plans aligned with both state and national academic standards, ensuring that all students had access to rigorous and developmentally appropriate content. My role involved differentiating instruction to meet the diverse academic needs and learning styles of students, utilizing a variety of teaching strategies such as hands-on activities, cooperative learning, technology integration, and formative assessments.
I played a key role in preparing students for standardized testing, including the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). This included developing data-driven instructional plans, creating practice assessments, and implementing test-taking strategies to build student confidence and performance.
After stepping into the role mid-academic year, I quickly built strong relationships with students, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom culture rooted in mutual respect, curiosity, and academic growth. I implemented clear classroom routines and behavior expectations to promote a structured and supportive learning environment. I also prioritized building strong partnerships with families through regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and collaborative goal-setting to support each child’s academic and social development.
In addition to core teaching duties, participated in professional development opportunities, and collaborated with colleagues to ensure consistency and cohesion across grade levels. My teaching approach emphasized student engagement through the use of interactive lessons, real-world connections, and project-based learning experiences designed to deepen understanding and make learning meaningful.
